2005 Open House
CTF offers a lot to our community, and on Saturday,
January 29, 2005, we held our annual Open House to "show our stuff"
to the community. Here is a collage showing what we are all
about, as demonstrated at our Open House.

So you thought heart disease was a man's disease! Well,
guess again. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in
women, responsible for 32% of all deaths in women. Six times
more women die of heart disease than breast cancer. CTF's
program can help women reduce their chances of dying from this
disease. In this photo, a prospective member is getting
information on how she can help herself minimize the chances of
coming down with heart disease.

Stress can cause heart disease. CTF realizes
that, and here Cindy Price, RN, one of our cardiac nurses, talks
about the effects of stress on our heart and how CTF attempts to
minimize it.
|
Exercise and live longer! It's true. Not only will
you live longer with exercise, but you will be able to do more in
life. Here some of our members are demonstrating that people
with heart disease can exercise aerobically with the proper medical
supervision that one receives in a program like CTF's
|
Upper body strength is important too. Here
one of our cardiac nurses, Celia Beckett, RN, leads a group of CTF
members with a series of upper-body strength building exercises.
|
Food is important to our members. This heart-healthy table
of treats was generously donated by Piazza's, located at Charleston Plaza in
South Palo Alto, on Middlefield Road. Part of what our members
learn is how to eat right in order to minimize their chances of a
heart attack or stroke. Member Gerry Friedland and member's
spouse, Edith Odenheimer, here pose in front of our food and
refreshment table.

Putting it all together--that's why it's called
The Wrap Up! Here our director, Robin Wedell, RN, is
explaining the various facets of CTF's program to a prospective
member.

CTF is in the News!
The January 14, 2004 issue of
The Almanac, in their
monthly Health & Fitness section, had a great article by Diana
Reynolds Roome on how our cardiac therapy program focuses on
exercise and education--with "TLC". Here is the
link to the complete article from The Amanac's archives.
Or if you would like to make a reprint, here is a
link to the
article as printed in PDF format--requires Adobe Acrobat
Reader to open, free from Adobe.)

CTF's 2003 Holiday Party
CTF's members came together to celebrate the Holiday Season and
their successful move to the Cubberley Community Center with a
luncheon mini-banquet on December 20th. Good fun was had by
all!

Donna Louie's Thank You Party
The Cardiac Therapy Foundation owes a tremendous amount of
gratitude to Donna Louie, who for the past umpteen years has
been serving as its Program Director. So when Donna
announced that she wanted to switch positions with Robin Wedell,
our Associate Program Director, the Board agreed and
then did what it is really good at: giving Donna a party
to thank her for her wonderful years of service and devotion to
all of us!
So on Sunday afternoon, June 24, 2001,
Board President Bart Phelps and his gracious wife, Jeanette,
hosted a Thank You Party at their residence, open to all CTF's
participants and staff. The attendance was
wonderful. The food and drinks established a party
atmosphere for everyone who came to show their appreciation to
Donna for her hard work and to wish Robin success in her new
role. Here Peter Milward (center), is celebrating with
Robin (left) and Donna (right) as they discuss the fun they've
had over the years at CTF!

Gabe's 90th Birthday Party!

You, too, can have the Cardiac Therapy Foundation throw a
party like this on your 90th birthday! However, it won't
happen unless you're nice to all the nurses, all the time.
For Gabe Almond, though, that was easy because he's always such
a nice guy.
